Our story

Omakilpi was founded in spring 2018 with the innovation to create a company that responds to a wide range of customer needs by offering a variety of plates for different uses. The first plans to start a plate company were made in pencil on graph paper back in 2002. At that time it was already clear that the online shop would be a channel to customers, but the idea was to market through newspaper advertisements such as Helsingin Sanomat and Keltainen Pörssi. However, the matter was put on hold and the time was finally ripe only 16 years later when social media changed the world.

In foreign countries, such as Germany or the United States, you often see plates made using the same process as official vehicle registration plates, but with the text or characters that customers want embossed on them instead of the registration number. These plates are often referred to as "custom plates".

In Finland, however, there were previously no such high-quality, domestic e-commerce companies producing plates with fast delivery. So we started manufacturing using a technique similar to that used to make official number plates - letters and numbers are embossed on an aluminium plate using a hydraulic press, then printed using heat-tape technology. This gives them excellent durability even in outdoor use.

Since the summer of 2018, Omakilpi has been embossing number plates with its own text for interior decoration, advertising and corporate gifts, trucks, exhibition and wedding cars, souvenirs, boat stands, etc. The only limit is your imagination.
